Health Insurance Terminology
Dental Only insurance: provides dental coverage and the below core benefits.
Health & Dental insurance: provides dental coverage, the below core benefits, plus prescription drugs. In other words, the difference between Dental Only insurance and Health & Dental insurance is that Health & Dental insurance covers prescription drugs, whereas Dental Only insurance does not.
Health Insurance Core benefits: features included in all health insurance policies (both Dental Only, as well as Health & Dental). The core benefits are:
- Vision Care: covers costs towards prescription lenses and frames and/or contact lenses.
- Hospital benefits: pays for private or semi-private hospital rooms. If no room is available, this money is paid to you each day in cash.
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment: Pays for a loss directly resulting from accidental bodily injury or loss of life.
- Travel Coverage (to age 65): Covers emergency hospital/medical expenses while traveling and access to a 24-hour worldwide medical assistance center up to to a maximum of $1,000,000 per trip.
- Continued coverage: coverage is continued for 1 year, following the death of an adult policyholder.
- Extended Health Care: covers the cost of Chiropractors, Chiropodists & Podiatrists, Naturopaths, Registered Massage Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Acupuncturists, and Speech Pathologists/Therapists.
- LifeLine Response Service: Provides 24-hour monitoring service for people coping with medical problems at home.
- Homecare, Nursing, Prosthetic Appliances, and Durable Medical Equipment: Covers the services of registered health professionals, including Registered Nurse, Registered Nursing Assistant or healthcare aid; includes surgical bandages and dressings and the purchase or rental of medically necessary equipment such as crutches, non-electric wheel chairs and hospital beds, oxygen and other equipment recommended by your physician and approved by Liberty Health. Also includes prosthetic appliances such as artificial limbs, eyes, splints, casts and breast prostheses following mastectomies.
- Hearing Aids: Covers the cost to purchase and/or repair hearing aids.
- Ambulance Services: Covers trips to hospitals in a licensed ground ambulance.
- Accidental Dental: Covers dental treatment required as a result of an accidental blow to the head or mouth.
Ancillary Services: The name given to professional services such as laboratory tests and radiology exams.
Exclusions: Items or medical services that are not covered by the health plan.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment: Provides an additional benefit when death occurs by accidental means.
